The Evolution of Belldandy's Face | The Sun Rising Blog

There is currently an ongoing discussion somewhere about how manga characters have changed on design (or drawing) these past couple of years. Of course, I cannot think of anyone else but Belldandy and her ever changing face.

Much will definitely change given the advancement of technology. Before, everyone draws manga with a pencil. It should be noted that mangaka of today still us their hands, as evidenced by this picture where it seems that Masashi Kishimoto still draws sketches of Naruto using pencil. In another video, Ken Akamatsu’s assistants are using high-end graphic tablets to draw a face.

Technology allowed art to be simplified, or more complex, depending on which school of thought you follow.

Maybe tech allowed mangaka Kosuke Fujishima to refine Belldandy into what she appears today. As in now. This year. Last July, when Ah My Goddess’s almost 26 years of publication has ended.

At least her trademark forehead mark did not change so much.
