A couple of games that received quite some coverage here on the blog and also on other websites have made it to this week’s Japan Weekly Game charts. There’s Phantasy Star Nova, Etrian Odyssey, and even Senran Kagura Bon Appetit.
Many have noted that Nova’s sales are weaker compared to previous Phantasy Star games on handhelds. Siliconera said it was because Nova is almost similar to Phantasy Star Online 2, which is playable on most platforms including mobile. While I do agree on that, I can also say that maybe the number of people who have PSPs back then are bigger than the number of Vita owners today in the country.
This here is actually Phantasy Star Portable 2BUT THEN AGAIN. I tried comparing the lifetime sales of both the PSP and the Vita when Phantasy Star Portable and Nova were launched. The result is that 6% of Japanese Vita owners bought Nova in 2014. While only 3% of PSP owners in 2008 bought Phantasy Star Portable.
