Did you hear a huge, “Yes!” this morning? That was me, when I heard Nintendo is bringing Tomodachi Collection: New Life to North America on June 6, 2014 as Tomodachi Life. It happened in a special, stealth Nintendo Direct that went live today and focused solely on this game. (Which, I must say, looks pretty darn awesome.)
Tomodachi Life is most similar to The Sims. You can assign personality traits to your Mii, and import any you have or have collected into the game, move them onto your Tomodachi Life island, design their rooms, dress them up, play with them, and have them interact with one another. There’s even Vocaloid technology added so the Miis can talk to you. I highly recommend watching the Nintendo Direct. It’s eleven minutes long and the first 3 minutes are pretty hilarious.
It also marks the return of the screenshot capture system, which we discovered and fell in love with in Animal Crossing: New Leaf. So you can take pictures of all the Tomodachi Life interactions.
Tomodachi Life taps into your Mii Maker and StreetPass Mii Plaza, so you may want to make a few more Miis or get your StreetPass on so you’ll be ready in June. You don’t want an empty apartment complex, do you? Also, Nintendo plans to send out celebrity Miis into Tomodachi Life. So far, Christina Aguilera has been confirmed as the first who can move onto your island. It’ll be a good time.
Basically, we absolutely needed this. Thank goodness Nintendo came through!
