Heartbreak: Don't Expect a New Banjo-Kazooie Any Time Soon

Once upon a time, it was reported that some folks who used to work at Rare were preparing some sort of “spiritual successor” to Banjo-Kazooie. When the news broke, everyone on the internet effectively jumped for joy. Banjo-Kazooie is, of course, one of the greatest franchises of the old generation, a classic collect-a-thon with colorful characters, wonderful music, and quite a bit of nostalgia power.

Unfortunately for those folks excited to see what the team might have cooked up, it appears as though the entire project has been scrapped. Grant Kirkhope, who you may remember as Rare’s go-to composer during its golden years, confirmed in a Reddit Ask Me Anything thread that while plans had been made and a demo level had been created, the project fell apart due to everyone involved being busy with other jobs.

Tough luck, Banjo fans. Of course, it’s always possible that Rare will resurrect the franchise into some sort of Kinect-only monstrosity, thus destroying our dreams forever and making us sad that life didn’t end in the Nintendo 64 era.
