Amazon's 3D phone with 6 cameras has leaked - Bandwidth Blog

Amazon’s long-awaited smartphone is apparently right around the corner. This is the first time that all the rumours finally point to an actual device, though. These images are the first apparent leak of the phone.

I know what you are thinking: “Damn, that’s ugly!” And I would agree, but luckily there is an enclosure around the device that hide the true nature of the phone. That would imply that this leak was intentional to generate buzz ahead of the launch within the next couple of months.

BGR claims the phone’s screen measures 4.7 inches, which would make it noticeably smaller than the latest flagships from Samsung and HTC. It’s also said to be a 720p display, which falls a bit short of the now-standard 1080p resolution.

The very interesting thing about this leak, though, is the fact that it has SIX cameras. Yes, six cameras! The rear one is a standard phone camera for taking photos, and according to the report one of the five on the front is also just a standard camera. The four other front facing cameras, though, are for something very unique: the phone’s 3D interface.

Rather than require users to wear 3D glasses or include specialized display technology as Nintendo does with the 3DS, Amazon’s phone reportedly relies on tracking technology to pull off its glasses-free 3D effect. We still don’t have exact details of how it will work, but colour us intrigued.

The device will run Amazon’s forked version of Android, called FireOS. How it will be different from on their Kindle Fire tablets remains to be seen. With June touted as the apparent launch date, we will hopefully have more details for you as the date draws closer.
