WayForward’s much-beloved Shantae series will be making a return next year on the 3DS eShop with Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse. According to the latest issue of Nintendo Power, the new game will be a continuation of the 2010 DSiWare game, Shantae: Risky’s Revenge.
After being drained of her genie powers in Risky’s Revenge, Shantae now has to form an alliance with Risky Boots, the very same pirate that siphoned Shantae’s powers, to try and defeat the 30 thieving Tinkerbats that gained her powers.
As Shantae progresses on her quest, she will acquire Pirate Gear that will help aid her in traversing the interconnected 2D world. “Each new ability is both a mobility enhancement and a weapon,” explains WayForward’s creative director Matt Bozon, “For example, the Bone Daggers allow players to throw deadly knives at long range, but they are also useful for lodging into walls or gears to be used as handholds.”
