Police investigate Shropshire burglaries | shropshirelive.com

Sometime between 8.30am and 11.40am on Saturday thieves entered the property on Deepdale in Hollinswood and carried out a thorough search. At this stage it is not clear how the thieves got into the house as there was no sign of a forced entry.

The items taken include a black Samsung LCD TV, an Xbox 360 Elite with two controllers, a red Nintendo 3DS, a 17inch black Samsung laptop computer and a number of pieces of jewellery including a Pandora charm bracelet with the three charms.

The total value of the stolen property is thought to be more than £4,500.

In addition, four Army medals were also taken – all of which were inscribed ‘LCP Taylor 25136254′.

Speaking about his continuing concerns about burglary in Telford & Wrekin, Temporary Detective Inspector Greg Lane said:

“Although burglaries do remain relatively unusual, up to half of all burglaries are committed by thieves who enter the house through an unlocked door or an open window.

“This means the reality is that most burglaries are carried out by opportunistic thieves, rather than ‘professional’ criminals, who are looking for the easiest way of getting into a house without being seen or disturbed. Opportunist thieves will not want to take unnecessary risks to carry out a burglary and therefore there are simple things that everyone can do to make life more difficult for them.

“For example, don’t leave open or unlocked doors or accessible windows in unoccupied rooms even if you are only outside for a very short time. If you are in the garden and leave the front door open: it would only take a matter of seconds for an opportunist thief to walk in and steal items from your home.”

Police investigate Much Wenlock burglaries

Police in Shropshire are also appealing for witnesses following burglaries at two homes in Much Wenlock.

They believe breakins at addresses in Walton Avenue and Oakfield Park over the weekend, are linked.

A window was smashed causing £300 damage at Walton Avenue. It is not yet known what was stolen after the intruders searched various rooms.

In the second burglary, a Samsung laptop worth £460 was stolen together with items of jewellery. Entry was gained by forcing a window resulting in £250 damage.

West Mercia Police are appealing for witnesses, or anyone with information about the identity of the offenders, to contact them on 101. Information can also be passed to the anonymous Crimestoppers charity by calling 0800 555 111.
