During tonight’s X Factor, ITV 1 will be airing a 60 second advertisement for Nintendo’s upcoming console. The television ad campaign aims to continue the Wii branding while establishing the Wii U as a brand new, next gen console.
Nintendo UK PR and marketing director Shelly Pearce said the following in regard to the Wii U’s marketing campaign:
“We know there is a demand out there for a new console format. And this is a new generation of console. Maybe at E3 2011 we didn’t make that clear enough – it really is a new box as well as that innovative controller, it offers many different things.
“We’re making sure to communicate that angle in the marketing, and the campaign will seem fresh and slightly different. Although there are clear elements that say ‘this is from the people behind Wii’ to maintain some continuity.”

The X Factor is the biggest TV talent competition in Europe, with more than 10 million viewers tuning in every week. A 30 second ad during a television show of this size can cost at much as £250,000, so God knows how much Nintendo UK must have spent on a 60 second one.
