Both of them are very good, I had the XL but I lost it. My sister has the 3DS, and it does not support the same games used on previous nintendos. The games for the 3DS cost more, but I would say it is worth it. The XL is big you have to remember, and the 3DS is more compact, so You can bring it any where with ease.
