Great Summer Video Games You Might Have Missed | Gear Diary



This summer featured several popular games including Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance, NCAA Football 13, LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes, New Super Mario Bros. 2, and Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Future Soldier to keep gamers happy. Here are some quality games you might have missed during your busy summer that are worth checking out.


Papo & Yo (PlayStation Network(PSN)) – This puzzle platformer packs a powerful storyline and characters with striking visual styles and unique level designs. Don’t miss out on this truly unique game experience.


Sound Shapes (PSN) – This side-scrolling platformer lets players make their own music on the PlayStation 3 or PlayStation Vita and features musical contributions from Beck and Deadmau5. Players can engage the online community, upload/download created levels and remix them. The Vita version features gameplay using the touch screen and back touch pad.


Quantum Conundrum (PC , Xbox Live Arcade (XLBA) and now PSN ) This first-person physics puzzle platformer puts players in the place of a 12-year boy visiting his uncle’s mansion, which quickly becomes an indoor adventure especially when he must find his missing uncle, Professor Q, using the interdimensional shift device.


Gungnir (PSN for PlayStation Portable and PlayStation Vita) – This role-playing game (RPG) challenges players to take risks in their turn-based strategy as resistance characters battle against their invading enemies among social themes including inequality and prejudice.


Spelunky (Xbox Live, unofficial Mac OS X port) – Originally released in 2008 on PC, this newly enhanced adventure platformer randomizes level so each gameplay experience is different. Experience fully-destructible environments and immense secrets among the cave environments while collecting loot, avoiding traps, and rescuing other characters.


Joy Ride Turbo (Xbox Live) – This fast-paced, arcade racing game is the sequel to Kinect Joy Ride and features airborne tricks, collectibles, unlockables, special stunts, and the new stunt park. Players can challenge in the local four-player split-screen mode or race up to eight players online.



Dyad (PSN) This tunnel racing game fuses with high energy music and amazing color schemes among more than 25 levels. Solve puzzles, shoot through enemy targets, try the remix mode and build momentum for a unique experience.


Art of Balance Touch! (Nintendo 3DS eShop) – This physics-based puzzle involves careful balance and placement of varying objects among 200 levels among eight special environments. Some levels take several attempts to complete, but the relaxing interface and responsive touch controls challenge players without overwhelming them.


The Last Story (Nintendo Wii) – Set on an island city, the roleplaying action with online co-operative play adds attractive gameplay elements in this third-person action RPG. Players must use stealth strategies and can complete several secondary missions as the strong characters battle in a fast paced format.


Velocity (PSN) Set in the year 2212, this affordable space shooter is optimized for the PSP, but can still be played on the PS3 and PS Vita. Players must complete attack and rescue objective among enemy scavengers using a special spacecraft that uses teleportation. The action scrolls automatically and developers incorporate puzzle-based action into the gameplay.
