News: Jeremiah Slaczka, CEO of Scribblenauts developer 5th Cell, says the Wii U is “definitely” more powerful than both the PS3 and Xbox 360, adding that rumours to the contrary are “frustrating”.

Speaking in the print edition of Game Informer (via VideoGamer), 5th Cell co-founder Jeremiah Slaczka says the Wii U is “definitely more powerful than Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.”

“It’s kind of frustrating to see the rumours and speculation of people going back and forth saying it’s weaker or more powerful. It’s definitely more powerful.”

5th Cell are currently developing Scribblenauts Unlimited for the Wii U; Slaczka believes the studio was “one of the first” to see the console in action.

Nintendo came to our studio and demoed it to us. A couple of weeks later Warner Bros. got to see it, and we said we should do this. This game was originally a Wii title but later moved to Wii U. It’s been about two years in development.”

Despite existing confusion around the Wii U’s power (and the occasional grumble from Peter Molyneux about the dual screens), Slaczka is the latest in a series of high-profile developers to praise Nintendo’s console. Trine 2 devs Frozenbyte declared it would “match or even surpass” the PS3 and 360, while Cervat Yerli of Crysis creators and tech buffs Crytek revealed that their next-gen-ready CryEngine 3 “runs beautifully” on the Wii U.

We’ll keep you posted if and when the Wii U‘s specs are revealed.
